Platforms and Issues

Healthcare Reform
As a nurse of 20 years, I’ve seen people who cannot afford access to quality healthcare because deductibles, co-pays, and prescription drug costs are too high.  Everyone deserves access to quality healthcare.  We need to explore other options, such as expansion of Medicaid, to ensure that everyone receives proper healthcare.

Education Reform
There is a bill before Congress to terminate the Department of Education.  That would be a travesty.  The Department of Education provides funding to schools in the form of Pell Grants and Federal Student Aid.  Without that funding, millions of people could not afford to go to school and obtain higher education.  All of us deserve access to a quality education.  Having a more educated population could help to remedy some of the issues that plague and haunt our society such as poverty, unemployment, and gun violence.

Gun Safety
The Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms.  However, gun ownership is a massive responsibility.  Gun safety is of paramount importance in our schools.  Students must have an environment that is conducive to learning and not conducive to the stress of gun violence.
We need to create a nation-wide database that is interconnected from state-to-state.  No one should be allowed to go from state to state and purchase a firearm without the proper licensing and background checks.  All states need to be on one accord.  The Tennessee Waffle House shooting may have been prevented if the state of Tennessee would have known that the shooter’s gun license had been revoked by the state of Illinois.  That is why we need a Nation-Wide Database that is interconnected from state to state.

These three platforms are foundational elements of peace and prosperity in the 10th District and the entire United States of America.
